MyAddressBook User Guide - Using MyAddressBook

Adding new addresses

To add new addresses, click the Add link at the top of the page.

On the "Add Address" page, enter as many names as you like (make more space by clicking the "+" on the far right, and the "-" to remove names). If you want to set a single display name (the name that will take most prominence in your email client and other places) enter one as well.

You can set up one or more email addresses, phone numbers and addresses. Again, click the "+" and "-" buttons to add and remove items.

Click Save to add this address to your list.

If you want to add multiple addresses from a different source, check out the Import section.

Searching and browsing addresses

On the "Address List" page (which may be accessed by clicking the Home link at the top) you can search for addresses by typing into the box at the top-right of the page, marked "Search:".

As you type, entries with any name or email address that contains what you type will be shown, and all others will disappear.

Pressing the Return key after typing something in the search box will give you a bookmarkable page to search for a particular set of entries.

Clicking an address on the Address List page will highlight it, allowing easy noting of required addresses.

Editing addresses

To edit an address, find it on the "Address List" page and click the small edit link on the far right.

On the "Edit Address" page you may add and remove names (using the "+" and "-" buttons to change the size of the list) and set a display name (the name that will take most prominence in your email client and other places).

You can set up one or more email addresses, phone numbers and addresses. Again, click the "+" and "-" buttons to add and remove items.

Click Save to save your changes.

Deleting addresses

To delete a single address, find it on the "Address List" page and click the small edit link on the far right.

On the "Edit Address" page there is a Delete button - clicking this will delete the address.

To delete many addresses at once, click the Delete link at the top.

On the "Delete Addresses" page, check the checkboxes next to addresses you want to delete, and then click the Delete Now button at the bottom.

Importing addresses from somewhere else

To import addresses from somewhere else, hover over the Tools link at the top and click Import.

Currently, MyAddressBook only supports importing from MyAddressBook version 1.

Importing from MyAddressBook version 1

To import addresses from MyAddressBook version 1, on the "Import Addresses" page, click MyAddressBook Version 1 (MySQL).

Now you are prompted to enter the details of the MySQL database you were using for MyAddressBook version 1. If you don't know these details you should be able to find them in the file config.php in the MyAddressBook version 1 install directory.

Once you have entered the correct details, click Fetch Addresses and you will see a list of all the addresses found in your MyAddressBook version 1 database.

Uncheck any addresses you don't want to import, and then click Import Now.

The new addresses will be added to your address list.

Upgrading from MyAddressBook version 1

MyAddressBook version 1 was based on a MySQL database. MyAddressBook version 2 uses an LDAP back-end. It provides a facility to import your addresses from the version 1 database. See the Importing from MyAddressBook version 1 section.
